Attending an Ayahuasca Ceremony. How it works and what you need to know

You have decided to participate or will participate in an Ayahuasca ceremony.

But what can you expect before, during and after a ceremony.

We will explain this in the next article. If anything is unclear, if you have any questions or if you want to register, please contact us via our website.

What to expect before the Ayahuasca ceremony

How nice that you want to participate or are interested in an Ayahuasca ceremony at Mindtravellers.

After you register with Mindtravellers, we will send you a questionnaire from us via email.

The questions are important for your and our safety.

Therefore we ask you to fill them out as completely and honestly as possible. These questions are about your physical and mental health. They also contain questions for you that are important in your life and your motivation why you would like to participate.

If any questions should arise, we will contact you in order to exclude any possible risks.

Preperation - Intention

Just as important to have an inner journey with us, it is important to come with a clear intention.

This way you can get the most out of your journey. What do you hope to achieve with your journey, what do you want to get out of it?

Before the journey begins, think about this and write some down.

In the group ceremony you can share this intention in advance if you want, but of course you decide for yourself if you want to.

Preparation - Diet.

To get the most out of your journey, it is important to prepare yourself energetically.

That means it is best to avoid dairy products and red meat prior to the ceremony.

Salt and sugar as little as possible. In this way you can start your journey as 'clean' as possible. It also helps to prepare yourself consciously.

48 hours before and 48 hours after the trip, it is better not to take any food that contains Tyramine

as this may raise your blood pressure during the ceremony.

Tyramine is found in, among other things:

  • Alcohol (including alcohol-free beer)

  • Various types of cheese

  • Processed meat and fish and game products

  • Various types of cheese

  • Soya and tempeh

Eat as lightly as possible the day before your trip and use little or no fat.

By doing so, you ensure that your blood pressure stays as low as possible. It also reduces the risk of nausea and headaches. The last hours before the trip it is better not to eat anything.

Medication

Do not use medications in the last three days before the ceremony. The anti-conception pill is an exception for this. Take your anti- conception pills well before the trip in connection with vomiting.

If you are using daily prescription medication please contact us.

Sex

We also recommend not having sex for a few days before the ceremony.

By doing this, your body retains its energy completely.

Preperation - Bring to the ceremony

In any case, bring clothes that are comfortable for you. Since we do not wear shoes in the ceremony room, it is nice to bring slippers. Also bring everything you need to sleep with us. For the walk after the ceremony, walking shoes and a jacket are fine.

The Ceremony

Finally the time has come for you to participate in our Ayahuasca ceremony.

We would like to welcome you around noon in our old spacious building that we bought in 2006. It has been recently renovated with a big kitchen and a nice ceremony room in the center of Culemborg.

Upon arrival we first show you all our rooms.

If you have booked a group ceremony we will first do a proposal round so that everyone can get to know each other a bit and feel comfortable with each other.

It is close to the river, a beautiful place to integrate the Ayahuasca journey.

You will feel right at home with us.

Commencement of the ceremony

We start with an information session of one hour, in which we calmly explain everything.

What you can expect and experience during the Ayahuasca ceremony.

Before the journey begins the intentions are shared If you prefer to keep these to yourself that is okay too.

We start the Ayahuasca ceremony with a prayer / Meditation and then the real journey begins. You drink the ayahuasca "tea".

Then you lie down on your mattress and close your eyes. We have beautiful music that fits perfectly with this journey. Of course, we as guides are always around to guide you. The journey itself takes approximately 6 to 8 hours.

Professional accompaniment during your journey

The Mindtravellers experienced facilitators are experienced travelers and are there to lovingly assist you throughout the journey with their knowledge and experience. They provide peace and tranquility during the ceremony so that everyone feels safe.

With their own Ayahuaca experience and often therapeutic background they can

understand what is happening and can guide you where needed.

After the inner journey

After the journey of about 6 to 8 hours, a vegetarian meal with a healthy soup will be waiting for you and there will be plenty of time to share experiences with each other.

Professional accompaniment after your journey

Even after the trip, it is nice to revisit how and what you have seen and learned in the trip with the new insights, ideas and feelings, and how you can apply this in everyday life.

Feedback from experienced supervisors can help with that.

It is Mindtravellers' mission to give more people the opportunity to learn about the healing power of Ayahuasca.

The Day After the Ayahuasca Ceremony

To best apply all the new new ideas and thoughts to your daily life, there is time for integration the next day. We then quietly reflect with each other in the sharing what we have seen and learned.

By sharing these experiences with others, and also receiving the experiences of others, a more complete picture of the meaning of everything, and how everything can be interpreted, emerges. Therefore it is important to remain open to this, also after this weekend.

What is still 'coming in' and what can I learn from it?

After breakfast we start this sharing. With a beautiful token, everyone gets the word in turn and can talk about their feelings and share what they want in their own way.

Then we make a painting or go for a walk along the river.

These are often beautiful moments of reflection and sharing with each other.

Mindtravellers After Care

Usually people feel calm and light after a MindTravellers journey. They are happy with what they have experienced and with the insights they have gained. They feel ready to integrate their experiences into their lives. By thinking about it themselves or talking about it with the people around them.

It may also be that there are painful themes that you would like to talk to us about again. This is of course possible and we are ready to help you. For processing and integrating your experiences you have come to the right place.

You can contact one of the guides for your trip. We can bring you in touch with him or her. Mindtravellers work together with an experienced Ayahuasca psychologist who can give you extensive information. This can be useful if you are a bit confused or anxious about what you have experienced. Or if you want to make changes in your life based on new insights, but don't know how. If you are interested in this form of aftercare, please email us. An initial consultation is always free of charge.
